Abstract

Abstract: According to ICN, can we consider investing in nursing education as owning

nursing specialty cadres? According to the Nursing Law, a specialist nurse is a nurse who has

completed her postgraduate education and whose diploma has been registered by the Ministry

of Health. Higher education has an important place in society in terms of enlightening the

society with the knowledge created, developing and revealing high-level skills such as critical

thinking and reasoning. This review aims to present a critical perspective on the conditions of

appointment to the academic staff of the nursing departments of universities and the existing

staff in the current situation. In recent years, along with the number of universities, the

number of undergraduate and graduate quotas in nursing have also increased. Among the

other reasons for the preference for postgraduate education is the requirement to have at least

a master's degree in applications to academic staff. According to Nursing Undergraduate

Workshop (2017) data; There are 79,054 students, of which 71,538 are undergraduate, 6.157

graduate, and 1,359 doctoral students. The number of lecturers is 1,562 and there are 125

professors, 140 associate professors, and 429 Dr. instructors There are 694 faculty members in

total. The number of lecturers other than lecturers is 868. Currently, there are 259 nursing

departments in universities in Turkey. Since the nursing program is a program that includes

applied training, the increase in the number of students suggests that the quality of the trained

nurse may be negatively affected. It is suggested that there should be at least 3 lecturers in

each department in 9 departments in nursing departments. Nursing departments must have

"About 30 Instructors X 259 Nursing Departments". Therefore, there should be approximately

9000 nursing staff in Turkey. Therefore, the reasons why universities do not prepare for this

issue, both quantitatively and qualitatively, cannot be understood. In qualitative preparation

for expert academic staff, publications, innovative studies, international exchange programs,

funding for research, accreditation of education, etc. is located.
