Abstract

This study examines how humanoid robots are interpreted in digital discourse through the Social Construction of Technology (SCOT) framework, focusing on Sophia’s televised appearance in Türkiye. A qualitative analysis of 3,329 YouTube comments, coded in MAXQDA2024, identified three main themes—relevant social groups, interpretive flexibility, and closure mechanisms. Findings reveal diverse reactions to AI shaped by ethical, cultural, and technological narratives. The study underscores how platform-based commentary contributes to the social negotiation of meaning around AI, offering insights for developers, policymakers, and media professionals.
