EVALUATION OF MENTAL STATE THAT WOMEN IN TURKEY: MULTICENTER SECTIONAL TÜRKİYE'DE KADINLARIN RUHSAL DURUMUNUN DEĞERLENDİRİLMESİ: ÇOK MERKEZLİ KESİTSEL ÇALIŞMA

Özet
Objective: This research was conducted to determine mental health symptoms of women living in different parts of Turkey based. Method: Data of the cross-sectional, descriptive and comparative research, which was conducted in September 2013-September 2014, were gathered from seven major cities in seven geographical regions in Turkey. Istanbul, Ankara, Izmir, Adana, Gaziantep, Erzurum and Trabzon were included in the research. The universe of the researchincludes all women living in the cities that were included in the research. All women who volunteered to participate in the research, which was conducted without the sample selection, were included in the research. The researchers applied a questionnaire, Short Symptom Inventory and face-to-face interview technique to gather date.Percentage distribution, mean value and one-way variance analysis were used to evaluate the data. Results: The mean age of women who participated in the research was 29.49 ± 8.60 and 26.2% of these women were 18-22 years old. 35.8% were high school graduates and 50.1% were single and a vast majority of these women had social security. 92.6% of women were not diagnosed with any psychiatric disorder, and 92.4% did not have anyone in their family who was previously diagnosed with any psychiatric disorder. Conclusion: As a result of the research, the city with the highest score of Short Symptom Inventory was found to be Erzurum whereas the city with the lowest score was found to be Adana. This research was conducted to determine mental health conditions of women living in different parts of Turkey based on a standard questionnaire. Based on these results, when evaluating the mental state conditions of women, it is recommended to evaluate women as a whole package with their biopsychosocial dimensions, to approach women with mental disorders sensitively, and to provide psychological counseling for these women.
